The Statue of Liberty stands in the New York Harbor, and is a symbol of Freedom Lighting the way. It can be tricky to teach kids about symbols, and this Statue of Liberty craft and costume are super easy, but can really help bring history alive for them. Its also a great way to start talking about American history and why the 4th of July is so important to Americans!
Easy Statue of Liberty Costume:
- Dress is a blue/green twin size fitted sheet, with the flat sheet laying over her shoulder. Safety pinned to fit.
- Hat was a $1 at Target, also saw them at the dollar tree. You could also make a crown out of cardboard or foil.
- Lady Liberty’s tablet, is a book, wrapped in the pillow case that came in the sheet set.
Lady Liberty Torch Craft:
- Flashlight
- yellow & orange or red tissue paper
- green or blue paper
- scissors & tape
Cut your tissue paper into small squares and form into flames. Tape around top of flashlight. Take paper and fold and inch down and make lines & cut (see top right photo). Wrap the paper around flashlight and secure with tape.
