When I was in college a friend of mine, Larry – introduced me to an easy and tasty treat! Drunken cherries! What I love about these, is what a cute gift they make. Yet they couldn’t be yummier or easier to do.
And because stores carry so many colors of cherries – you can really tailor this treat to any holiday. For instance – I found some great orange cherries and I’ve made these jars as gifts for the moms at my daughter playgroup.
Directions for Drunken Cherries:
- Jar(s) of maraschino cherries of your choice
- Alcohol of your choice ( I suggest vodka, rum, dark rum, or bourbon- but the sky is the limit)
Pour 2/3 of the jars syrup out and replace with the alcohol of your choice. That will make your cherries fairly boozy. So if you prefer a sweeter cherry go for replacing half the syrup or less instead. Let jars sit in the alcohol mixture at least a week before you use them or gift them. Good for a couple months after you make them.
Serving Ideas: Pour over a bundt cake, pour over ice cream, add to a cocktail (such as an old fashioned, martini or cosmo), just eat them individually as you want one!
