We recently moved, and along with the stress of boxes and address changes came the excitement of re-imagining our spaces! One space I knew I wanted to change from its previous incarnation, was our guest room.
And since I love getting a peak into other peoples houses and decorating styles – I thought I’d share with you how we changed this room!
In our old house, the guest room was a deep red color. It was that color when I moved in, and I tried to decorate around it. It became a place for all our boho, ethnic, world culture knick-knacks. And while I liked the room okay, and it served our needs – I always wished for something lighter and brighter!
Once we moved into our new house, I began to brainstorm how I could use some of what we already had in the old red guest room – to achieve a more relaxing feeling in the new room. On moving day, our movers piled boxes, a bed, and mattresses labeled “Guest Room” into our new space.
It felt too small for such dark colors, and I instantly wanted to paint the bed! Luckily, I have a very patient husband who helped me take the bed apart, and carry it downstairs to our yard!
We put up tarps, and my husband sprayed metal safe spray paint on the bed to lighten it up. We used Rust-Oleum Satin Paint & Primer in one.
The guest room bed gets very light use, so that worked perfect for us. If you are thinking about spray painting a bed that gets used every day though – I’d definitely recommend you use a sealer over the Rust-Oleum to make it less susceptible too scratches!
In the end we re-used the old bed frame, painted a bright white, re-used the green blanket as an accent piece rather than the main comforter and kept a wooden nightstand and dresser in the new room.
I love the way it turned out!
And because this new house is substantially smaller than our old house, I love that this room can do double duty. Not only do I think it will be a welcoming place for guests when they visit, but I plan to use the room myself as a quiet and serene place to escape to. I imagine many books being read there, lists being written, and cat naps taking place while the sun streams in!
One of my favorite things in the guest room is the above canvas! It used to hang in our living room – but the colors go perfectly here! I’ll write more in detail about it in another blog – because I think its amazing! But in case your wondering about it, its a Canvas DNA portrait from Biopop.com!
I just adore the way the room came out!
Do you have a guest room? What do you love most about it?
I’d love to know!
Beautiful re-do! It looks great! Love the canvas!
@Teresa, Thanks so much Teresa! I’m excited to use the room myself – and I’m not a guest here! HAHA!
It’s darling! I’m all about painting the old to make it new! It’s so fresh and pretty!
Not sure why I missed this but I LOVE it. Love the colors and its so bright and cheery! Just like you!
