It can feel daunting trying to keep kids interested in eating food that you as a parent feel good about serving them. But it doesn’t have to be a struggle. Over the years I have found a few good tricks for getting picky eaters to be excited about what is in their lunchbox! I can’t wait to share a few of those ideas with you below, as well as some great companies I discovered in my Babbleboxx this past month – that help make that task easier, faster, and more enjoyable for me as a parent!
~Lunch Tips and Tricks ~
Tip 1. Cute rules the day! If you can make your child’s lunch fun they are way more likely to try new things, and to eat what you are offering them. One surprisingly easy way to add some “cute” is to make the food in the shape of an animal. Below, I’m using an Orange Bear to hold Granola treats, and a Rice Panda decorated with olives to entice my daughter into digging in!
Steak kabob anyone? Anything on a stick is more fun!
Tip 2. Work with products and Services that make your life easier! Forgot to run to the store, no need to stop what you are doing to go. Use Shipt for same day delivery! Need treats to the kiddo that are organic and free of the most common allergens? MadeGood has you covered. Want a convenient organic vegan side dish? Lundberg is your go to! Local grocery doesn’t have the grass fed beef selection you’d like? You can get protein into your kids diet using Eat Pre.
Tip 3. Themes are your friend! What about a meal themed by a particular country or region? Below is a lunch I made with a Greek theme. I made a Pre burger more fun by adding Feta cheese here. And made a salad more likely to be tried – by adding Greek spices and flavors in line with the theme. And remember, themes can be whatever you want. Foods that start with a letter. Foods that are one color. Do an 80’s lunch theme!
Anything goes!
Tip 4. Delegate! I am LOVING my subscription to Shipt. The thing I like best, is that they allow me to order supplies for dinners and lunches on the same day I need them, taking one more errand of my plate! Then a personal shopper finds those items I ordered, and brings them right into my house. I’m not kidding. This is a real service guys. The friendly lady below brought me this weeks food and I did it all from one App.
(Use this link to sign up for Shipt Promo Code for just a $49 annual membership fee! Once you’re a member you get FREE delivery on every order over $35. So worth it.)
Tip 5. Use products that do double duty! Convenient and yummy is how I would describe Lundberg White Rice and Quinoa Entree. It makes a perfect serving size and I love how it easily works for dinner one night and as leftovers in a school lunchbox the next day! It even tastes great cold as well as hot from the stove.
Major time saver. And my whole family loves the taste. Home run for sure!
Another product that works really well from dinner to next day lunch leftovers, is Eat Pre. I loved serving my family the Chuck Roast: beef shoulder, 85% Lean Ground Beef, New York Strip Steak, and Top Sirloin Steak. It all tasted so fresh and came packaged beautifully on dry ice. And I don’t have to scour my local grocery store looking for the fresh grass fed beef I want to serve my family, because I know I can order it directly from Eat Pre.
(Use the Eat Pre Promo Code “EVERYDAYBEST” for 10% off Grass Fed Beef – exp end of 10/18. You can use the code “BTS40” for 40% off 85/80 lean ground beef, in addition to the first code! Code exp 9/21.)
Tip 6. Find School Safe Treats that you can use at home – or send to school! It’s no fun to have one group of snacks for home and another that are safe for school. So why not buy delicious snacks from MadeGood that are free the 8 common allergens: peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, dairy, egg, soy, sesame, fish and shellfish? Then you know you aren’t putting school mates at risk with a snack – but you can also be sure that the snack you send is scrumptious. They are also organic and non- GMO.
Psst! Strawberry Granola Minis are “my mini’s” favorite!
At the end of the day, don’t let packing lunch for your child become a chore. Remember to keep your sense of humor about it! Not every meal has to look perfect! Just know that as long as your serving food you feel good about, your child will feel your love.
And if you can make your job as a parent easier using great companies and services… why not do it?
