Pokemon Go fans get ready to RUMBLE!! Gym battles are the height of this new hot game app from Niantic and once you start leveling up your Trainer character, you can start having some real fun with these Pokemon Gym Battles! Grab your family and friends, jump in the car and head towards the nearest Pokemon Gym!
Not only will you have fun, but you will end up being your kids hero! And who doesn’t want to be the “fun parent” every now and then?
How to find a Pokemon Gym –
Check the map feature on the app and figure out where the next closest Pokemon Gym would be. You may have to drive a bit to find one depending on where you live, but many city areas are loaded with them all around, so most likely if you travel a few blocks in any direction you are bound to find one.
Don’t forget to enjoy picking up some free Pokeballs and other helpful items along the way at local Poke Stops.
If the Pokemon Gym you come to first is one from your own team, then take a few moments to get in some practice and help out your fellow Gym. Just click on the punching bag icon on the lower right of the screen after you enter the gym to engage in battle. Once your Pokemon is knocked out (remember you can’t beat your own Team’s Gym), you’ll earn some of the highly desired Stardust to help power up your Pokemon, and the Gym will gain those all important prestige points they need to get leveled up too.
Start your journey and look for the Gyms on the map with the color(s) you need.
Fantastic Locations For Gym Battles
A fantastic location to go for a long walk and go Gym Battling is on a college campus, or at a theme park. These two places in particular have proven to have multiple gyms, so that more opportunities exist for there to actually be one Gym for each Team color in many cases. It all depends on who controls the Gym at the time.
Are you hearing the call to battle? It’s certainly tempting when you have multiple Poke Stops and Gyms at your disposal within the perimeter of a college campus or theme park. (As an example, this image was taken at a theme park in FL.)
Learning Attack Moves and Defense
Pokemon Go fans will love to feel the thrill of the battle as they engage in serious battles with their toughest Pokemon! These battles are done in real time, so you’ve got to be quick and learn the various moves you can use to stay in the battle and not get knocked out.
One great move is to master the art of ducking. Many players don’t even realize this is a potential defensive move. Put your finger on your Pokemon as if you were preparing to attack, then swipe right or left to duck or dodge an attack from the opposing Pokemon.
In order to use your standard move, just tap quickly on your Pokemon and you’ll see it sending out attacks. If you wish to use your special attack move, you need to have a full blue bar in order to use it. Once that blue bar shows full, just hold your finger on your Pokemon and it will unleash your special attack. Be warned though, by doing so you leave yourself open to standard attacks from the opposing Pokemon. You cannot dodge while using your special attack. You are able to dodge when using your standard attack.
Have you used a Pokemon Gym yet? What’s your best tip?

Hi Shannon! I’ve started playing Pokemon go and it’s pretty fun. I found your tips helpful but I’m still not sure why you visit a gym in the first place. There are so many things about this game that I don’t understand (must be the old lady in me 🙂
