What is Prairie Lights?
Prairie Lights, Grand Prairie Texas is the premier holiday light park in DFW! This combination Holiday lights drive through experience, with additional opportunities to get out of the car and have some fun at the Prairie Lights Holiday Village – is a Dallas Fort Worth area Holiday staple.
This years Prairie Lights features a Holiday Village, the magical walk-thru forest, un-limited carnival rides, photos with Santa, holiday shopping and more. And is open Thanksgiving – New Years Eve.
Some Tips:
- Turn OFF your headlights during the drive-thru. They request you do, and the lights are prettier that way!
- Remember to turn ON your headlights again, before leaving the park. It’s easy to forget!
- Follow at a safe distance and speed. There is no rush. Enjoy yourself!
- Opening your car windows will give you a better view. Pack a cover if it’s chilly!
- Restrooms & concessions are located at the midway point. Important info if you have kids!
- Don’t miss the walk through lighted forest! You will find the entrance at the back of the Holiday Village tent.
- You will find lighter crowds earlier in the night, and on weeknights.
Need a Holiday Soundtrack?
Guests are encouraged to listen to the Prairie Lights Spotify playlist! And you will want to download it ahead of time, since WiFi connection in the park varies. You can also put the playlist on “loop” so Spotify will play other music once the playlist ends!
Is Food available?
Yes! You can expect to find lots of sweet treats, warm beverages, and several traditional carnival favorites at Holiday Village, both inside and outside the village tent! We recommend grabbing some hot cocoa before walking through the lighted walk through forest just behind the Holiday Village.
*Hint* This is also a great stop for a quick bathroom break. Restrooms are available both in front of holiday Village, and before the lighted forest entrance.
How Long is the Experience?
That depends on how fast you drive, and how heavy traffic is in the park. Prairie Lights encourages people to drive slowly, and take in all the sights. Relax and enjoy the park.
Driving, typically takes about 45 minutes to drive straight through, with light traffic. With a stop in Holiday Village (highly recommended) plan on about 1.5 hours total. However, due to the high volume of cars on weekends, be sure to allow for an extra hour or longer to enter the park.
What if it Rains?
Prairie Lights is open rain or shine. The park only closes due to severe weather. Any park closures are generally posted by 3:00 p.m. the day of. But, rain alone will not cancel the event. We visited on a rainy night this year and it was great. We experienced lower crowds and a more leisurely drive through. Also, a tiny bit of mist made the lights look even more mysterious and magical.
What about photos with Santa?
If a family keepsake photo is on your holiday to do list, you can buy Santa Photos on site at Holiday Village. Packages typically include a pose or two, and are delivered to you by photo sheet, or on a digital package flash drive! The digital choice means they are perfect for printing in any size, and using whatever service you prefer.
