Full disclosure… this post is the mother of invention. I needed a word for the coming year for myself, and since I’ve started looking in the dictionary and thesaurus for inspiration – I thought I’d share the ideas with you dear reader. I’ve been stumped for weeks. I’ve asked EVERYONE I know what their ‘word of the year’ is. I’ve dreamed about it, stressed about it – but still. Nada. I like TOO MANY words of the year. And yet none have felt just right.

So I’m making a list for myself to peruse. And I’m giving myself the first week of January to pick one.  Or maybe… if I’m lucky, I’ll have found my perfect word by the end of writing this very post.

Fingers crossed.

3 Reasons to have a Word of the Year:

  • Having a word of the year can help you stay aligned with the goals and desires you have for the coming year. And if chosen well – it can help help anchor any New Years resolutions you make. The word is kind of like the trunk of a big tree. It’s the why for all the smaller resolutions you might have as it’s branches.
  • A Word of the year can apply to all areas of your life- rather than just a specific change the way a resolution can. A word of the year, can be used as a focus to elevate both your personal life and your work life if you so choose!
  • A single word can be easier to keep in your mind, and easier to focus on when your in the throes of daily life. Have a question about what to do during the new year? You can easily ask yourself what course of action most aligns with your word of the year! It’s a simple focus point.
