1. My mom raised me from infancy to high school as a single mom.And while I was lucky enough to see my dad several times a year, my mom played the part of mom & dad to me 24/7!
2.She worked more than one job in order to send me to a private religious school that she thought would nurture me more than the public school option. Even though it meant she had to spend her weekends volunteering to get a break on tuition!
3.My mom let me know every day that – she would alwaysbe my biggest cheerleader and love me unconditionally.No. Matter. What.
4.She apologized to me when she felt like she’d done the wrong thing. It paved the way for me to realize there is no shame in admitting you made a mistake.
5.My mom showed me through her day to day interactions with others – what kindness, humbleness, and gentleness really mean. She walked the walk ya’ll.
6. She gleefully laughed with me! A lot. It taught me that humor is one of the most beautiful things in God’s creation. And should be used liberally.
7. She truly examined her own prejudices about people, as she discovered them. She let me see that she was not willing to let a prejudice stay in her heart once she discovered it.She showed me you can change your own wrong thinking if you are brave enough to take an honest look at what you believe and why.
8.She gave the best darn hugs.
9.She gave me the blueprint for how to love my own daughter.
10. In the too short 16 years that she was able to spend with me, she left me MORE than a lifetimes worth of love and memories. Each year we had together full of lessons and stories that will last me forever!
