The beginning of this week started as usual, by my leaving my warm cozy bed, to go get a little 16 month old who is hopping up and down in her crib, ready for morning! Mommy is usually less ready to get the day started – and this morning was no different. But I woke up fast, when I stepped into our hallway and felt squishing under my feet.
“Why are my feet wet? Why is the carpet spongy? Why is there so much water… in the hall?”
Yeah, you have probably guessed what happened. Our hot water heater had sprung a leak. And consequently – our hallway had become a small pond.
So, we called our home owners insurance, plumbers, and carpet people. And the rest of this week has been a scheduling nightmare, where I wait around the house for various service people to come and check on things, and re-install things, and sometimes to not show up at all. Also, our house has been turned into a giant wind tunnel, with 6 industrial strength fans running 24 hours a day. Just so ya know,Christmas decorations and industrial strength fans do not really mix.
So let’s recap. Week before Christmas – burst hot water heater, and flooded house. Fa la la la la, la la la laaaaa.
Jokes aside – it really could have been worse. We were lucky to have insurance on the heater, and only had to pay a deductible, and costs for bringing the new water heater up to code. We could have sustained MUCH more damage, and we feel fortunate we didn’t. That said, it isn’t really the ideal way to bring in the holiday season. lol.
Wanna see some pictures of the insanity? It will make you feel better about the Christmas chaos at your house…promise:)
(This fan was actually pointed at the commode, so you had to pee with gale force winds directed at you – 24 hours a day. I’m not kidding.)

I had to come check out your blog because I LOVE the title! And ouch, that's a lot of money out the door ;(
That's lousy timing – but hopefully it'll all be dried out by Christmas. Not fun at all 🙁
Wow Shan that really stinks! I'm glad it's not as bad as it could have been but jeez I wish (and I'm sure you do too) that it hadn't happened. Waking up to a hall full of water a week before Christmas….not so fun. I'm glad it's getting worked out!
I really feel your pain. On Sunday our water heater basically exploded in our basement…uhh what a mess.
My washer went out 2 days before my house full of week long house guests were arriving for Thanksgiving so I can relate. At least you were home right?

that does not sound like fun, peeing in gale force winds.
Oh and the flooding doesn't sound like fun either.
I'm so impressed with your feelings of 'it could be worse' and 'we are lucky'..
I would have found it difficult to not teach lil Molls a new four letter word all week long..
congrats on your inner peace and strength..:)
HUGS!!!

(ps… any decorations that were damaged, can TOTALLY give validity to post xmas 70% off sale shopping!!!!!!)
You've had it rough!! But you also counted your blessings. What a "memorable" Christmas! :-))
OMG! I feel for you! I have to admit I broke into a smile with reading the "peeing in gale force winds" . That was pretty funny. I hope by now, the hall is dried out, the water heater is repaired or replaced, and life is returning to normal.
What a mess for you… hope it all gets back to normal for you soon…
Does homeowners insurance cover mental anguish?
Oh my goodness. What rotten luck. I hope it's all up and running again asap!
That sucks timing is everything! Hope your weekend is shaping up to be better than your week.
Shannon, hope to get back to normal. Love your post. Your home looks just great! Love the kitchen!
Have a wonderful week-end!
hugs hugs
Oh no Shan!!! That sounds like a crazy morning you had but kind of funny, who would think to wake up to the thought "why is the carpet spongy?" and have to pee with a fan on you lol:) that is very good though that you guys had insurance and it was only a deductible, especially around holiday time! love you and hope you're doing well with all this going on! (at least you're not in ny with something like that happening, freezing temperatures and fans are not fun together!) love you:)
I don't know about YOU, but skipping rope in the hall with a dehumidifier tube is MY American dream!! It is mostly for the uncertainty…will it come out – is water going to go everywhere (again)…all of the anticipation is more than a normal person can handle!

Oh no! I hope everything gets fixed up soon!
You seem to be handling this really well! I hope this dries quickly for you and you can continue on enjoying the decorations not blown out the door by the gales.
Oh Ugh! I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's so odd how things seem to happen in clusters: Recently, I've had several friends, from all over the country, have this very same thing happen to them. This week, I know three different women who are going in for some sort of cervical surgery. So peculiar! Let's hope that the next wave of coincidences are happy ones!
Yuck, what a pain to have to deal with all of that. And to top it off, having to pee with all that forced air – seriously!!! Hope it's much better now.
that really sucks…
but i LOVE your humor with the skip rope… LOL… love your blog..
Now, I am following YOU!
Lovely! I have nothing to complain about now!
