So many of us grew up with Peter Pan the Musical as one of our deepest and dearest childhood memories. Perhaps it was the iconic televised production that featured Mary Martin, or perhaps it was a sprightly Cathy Rigby singing the memorable Jerome Robbins songs that you most remember?
Well, a new name is about to be added to that iconic list – if you go to Casa Manana’s production of Peter Pan. Alyssa Robbins, who plays the title role in this Fort Worth production seems absolutely born to play this role!
Is this Production Kid Friendly?
From the moment Peter Pan flew into the nursery, kids in the audience of the show I attended were absolutely enthralled. The two sitting next to me were literally on the edge of their seats through the whole show. Seriously – their bottoms were only connected to the first couple inches of the seats! The child actors playing the Darling children had fabulous voices, and looked straight out of the Disney version of Peter Pan. My daughter recognized Wendy, Michael and John straight away!
When Captain Hook and the pirates came marching on – all the kids around me got wide eyes, and huge grins! David Coffee, who plays Hook does a wonderful job modulating between naughty and mischievous Hook and Lovable and silly Hook. I don’t think even the youngest members of the audience were ever scared by the pirates in this production – instead they seemed thrilled each time they heard a Yo Ho!
*Tip* Be sure to bring a little cash for the snacks and souvenirs that will be on sale before and during intermission of the show. There may even be a glass of wine available for mom and dad to bring back into the theater with them 😉
Final Thoughts: This was the first time I’ve attended a Casa Manana production, and I could not have been more impressed by the production values, and the top notch cast. This fast moving production of Peter Pan is a quality performance through out. The fact that it’s in my backyard – even better!
If you live in the DFW area, I highly recommend you add this show to your must do list.
*Tip* After the show ends, you can get autographs and pose for pictures with your favorite cast members from the show. Its a great opportunity for kids to get up close and personal with some of their favorite characters from Peter Pan, and it’s free!
You can purchase tickets for Casa Manana’s production of Peter Pan, now through May 11, 2014.
Matinee performances are available as well as family friendly, early evening performances! The total run time of the show is 1 hour 35 minutes including intermission. So even those with a shorter attention span are still likely to be in their sweet spot throughout the production.
Bottom Line:This Casa Manana production is the perfect outing for the kids – and the kids at heart! It’s not to be missed! My five year old daughter has not stopped talking about it – and asking if we can go back again and see it again before it closes! High praise indeed 🙂
