Our family is ALL Whovian. ALL the time. And we can’t wait to share with you where we found all the pieces to create a 13th Doctor Who costume – so you can create your own too! This Dr. Who costume was actually pretty easy to put together, and even better – super cheap!
When our family saw that Jodie Whittaker was going to be the newest Time Lord – we whooped for joy! We already loved her as an actress – but even beyond that we were thrilled for our 10 year old daughter! Getting to see a Dr. Who on TV that actually looked like her? Wow! What an amazing bit of fun for a 4th grader, right? So empowering and fun!
As soon as we saw what the new 13th Doctor outfit might look like, we began working on a costume for our Whovian kid right away!
Here are best tips on where to find the pieces for your own!
The 13th Doctors Shirt – We read online some fan theories that the shirt shown on The Doctor, might be a shirt from Brandy Mellville. I have no idea if that is true – but the shirt we found looked a LOT like the one in photos that Jody wore. And it was around $16, so we snapped it up. The shirt was called the Rainbow Rin top and it was actually a crop top made of a light knit, that just came in one size. On a kid, that crop fits more like a shirt which worked for us.
For an older kid or a grown up, you might be better off with a larger dupe like these 13th Doctor Who Shirt options. We paid $16.
Yellow Doctor Who Suspenders – We bought “Gold” kids suspenders on Amazon for this. They also have a bright yellow, but we thought the gold color just looked closer to the photos of the 13th Doctor! We paid $8.29.
We bought these: https://amzn.to/2xBXeIV
Doctor Who Raincoat – We found a similarly structured coat from Old Navy! The adult size small worked length wise. And if you are good at sewing, it would be so cute to add the dark rainbow lining inside of. Sadly for my kid – I’m just not that mom! The coat we found, we bought on Ebay. But Old Navy always has similar coats at the store. Ours is a beige color, but if you can find a very light grey colored one – you will be even closer to the colors the Doctor wears! We paid $7.
Doctor Who Shoes – We already happened to have these shoes. But it looks like you can still buy similar shoes from Target for around $20. Since we used shoes we already had – we paid $0.
Doctor Who Pants – We found a pair of boys ‘Slim Ultimate Built-in Flex’ khakis at Old Navy. The color “Sea Something” looked like the perfect shade. Normally $39.99 – we got them on clearance. We paid $9.97.
So the grand Total for our Dr. Who costume was… $41.26. And I call that a bargain! And if you are not already watching Dr. Who – you simply must jump on the bandwagon and watch! It is such a beautiful and fun show.
The #DoctorWho Global Premiere, Sunday, October 7 on @bbcamerica. New episodes premiere every Sunday! you could even wear your 13th Doctor Who costume while you watch. Just saying!
