The Barbie Dreamhouse 2013 – A Review

This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my full disclosure statement for details.

September 11, 2013 Shannon Schmid 13 Comments

I was excited when the One2One Network offered to send me a 2013 to review.  But if I thought I was excited – my daughter had me beat! Below is my daughters reaction to finding the Barbie Dreamhouse sitting on our stoop! Her eyes were as big as saucers – and she immediately asked “is it for me?”

I said yes! And a love affair began. She has played with this house every single day since we put it together!
Barbie review

I remember playing with several incarnations of the Barbie Dreamhouse as a kid, but none came close to this one! This newly renovated Dreamhouse is three-stories, has 6 rooms, two elevators, and  a few luxe details!  For instance, pink stainless steel kitchen appliances and a walk-in closet with its own elevator – a first for the fashion icon!

I also really appreciate that this dollhouse comes with a lot of furniture and accessories. There is really nothing worse than assembling a dollhouse only to realize its empty – and that doesn’t happen here! Check out some of the furniture that comes in the rooms below…

Barbie Dreamhouse review

My daughters favorite part of the dollhouse is all the lights you can activate, the sounds you can trigger – and the 2 elevators! A word about the elevators, they were the only part of the dollhouse I found a bit tricky to set up. However my husband had no problem figuring them out, so if you aren’t that handy like me, you may want to enlist the help of someone that is for that part of the assembly. Otherwise, I found putting the dollhouse together very simple and intuitive.

Over all I’ve found this dollhouse to have exceeded my expectations. There are so many new bells and whistles on this edition of Barbie’s Dreamhouse! I found myself feeling nostalgic as my daughter played with it, as well as impressed with all the creative thinking possibilities it creates. But it’s also a truly modern Barbie Dreamhouse – I ask you, did your childhood dollhouse include a kitchen recycling Bin?

I didn’t think so 😉

I’ve included a video of the dollhouse and its features below – for the visual learners out there! FYI -the Barbie Dreamhouse can be purchased at and other retailers nationwide. It has a manufacture suggested price of  $184.99

I participated in this sponsored campaign for One2One Network. I received monetary compensation and product to facilitate my post, but all opinions stated are my own.

Yes, I have found your review to be very helpful. I have 2 girls ages 3 and 8 who will both love this. I have been on the fence about it due to the fact it is pricey and the way they play with something for a few days then it sits to never be played with again. I love all the features… your right this is way cooler than any barbie house we grew up with…. shoot, I think I’ll play with it! lol. I have the opportunity to purchase this at a discounted price and your video and review have helped me to decide to go ahead and purchase this as a Christmas gift for both my girls. Thank you for taking the time to share this review.
    Bless you and yours.

@Lisa K, Hey Lisa!I am so glad the review helped you make your choice. I think its a great dollhouse choice especially for two children – there are two distinct sides to the house, and 6 rooms so two children can easily play at the same time. I hope they enjoy it! And goof for you shopping for Christmas ahead of time – I need to start doing that!

Let me also add, that though I said it is pricey, I can see why its worth every penny.

I bought this dream house used. My granddaughter loves it. Although none of the noises work. Can you instruct me where to put the batteries. I do not have any instructions to go with it. Thank you.

I avoided it at first because it didn’t seem that fun. Then- because I didn’t know how to do it. But, this year I’m challenging myself to try new things. Even if I look like an idiot! Who cares?! 😃

Bottom line, loved bowling. I suck. But it’s fun! Who knew? Well, lots of people. But now me too! Also- it’s helpful to have friends that make you try new things and expand your horizons. Super grateful for mine! ❤️
