How to make Easy Mexican Paper Flowers

Mexican Paper Flowers could not be easier to make! They take very little time or skill in this basic form – and they still make a HUGE impact in a party space because of their large size. Paper Flowers are also a great decoration because you can customize the color palette to match your event. Going to throw a Cinco De Mayo Party? You may want to choose bright contrasting primary colors. Need a photo wall for a Birthday? Maybe do ombre colors that are only a shade or two different? You can play with lot’s of different color stories.

The sky is the limit with Paper Flower making. So let’s get started creating flowers!

You Will Need:

  • 3 Sheets of Tissue Paper (per flower)
  • Scissors
  • Some string or yarn

Directions for How to Make Paper Flowers

Step 1. Lay the 3 Sheets of Tissue Paper on top of each other. Use bold contrasting colors for a Mexican paper Flower look. Or any other color combo that matches your event. You will however want the 3 sheets of tissue to be different colors in order to show layers.

Step 2. Make a fold with your stack of tissue, about 2 or 3 inches think. Continue to fold, front and then behind. This is just like when you made a paper fan as a kid. Just pretend you are making a giant tissue fan. Repeat until the entire sheet is folded up accordion style.

Step 3. Find the center of your folded tissue length. Cut a small circle or triangle shape on each side of that middle, allowing you to tie a piece of yarn or string around the middle. It doesn’t need to be tightly pulling on the paper. Just long enough to circle the middle.

Step 4. Very gently pull each sheet of tissue paper up, separating it from the other layers. When all tissue layers are separated, flip them and pull a handful of the bottom together. This will create a flower like shape.

Step 5. Tie more yarn around the bottom to make your blooms more secure, and able to hold their shape.

Step 6. Decorate your space! These make a great feature wall or doorway arches too!

P.S. Use all those clippings from the triangles you cut out, as confetti on your tables. It will match your color scheme perfectly!

Happy Paper Flower Making!

It shouldn’t have taken this long, but I just we It shouldn’t have taken this long, but I just went bowling for the first time in my life! 🎳

I avoided it at first because it didn’t seem that fun. Then- because I didn’t know how to do it. But, this year I’m challenging myself to try new things. Even if I look like an idiot! Who cares?! 😃

Bottom line, loved bowling. I suck. But it’s fun! Who knew? Well, lots of people. But now me too! Also- it’s helpful to have friends that make you try new things and expand your horizons. Super grateful for mine! ❤️
