I have such great memories of an old felt advent calendar my mom made when I was a small girl. The pockets helf ornaments of felt to press onto the tree. And as the tree’s decoration grew bigger – so did my anticipation of Christmas! I’ve been wanting to make an DIY Advent Calendar for my own daughter, but nothing quite fit the rustic simple look I wanted. Until this DIY Advent Calendar made of spare wood!
Here is how to make it…
This DIY Advent Calendar uses spare wood of any shape or size, and only a few other things. Here is how to make one of your own…
- Spare Wood
- Small Brown Paper Bags
- Small Clothespin
- Decorations for Numbering Your Bags (Number stamps, Stickers, Markers or Pre-Printed bags)
- Glue Gun
This is my sweet Daddy cutting some wood we found in his barn! I’d planned to leave it long and vertical, but it wouldn’t fit in my car. So he cut the wood in two, and put them together in a square shape. You will want to make columns fit whatever wood you have on hand.
The charm of this piece is using scrap! So look for some wood otherwise not being used and dust it off.
Space your paper bags out, and and figure out where you’d like to put your clothespins. Overlapping looks super cute, as does spread out. Go with whatever you like.
Glue the clothespins down, and load up your bags with treats.
Bag Filling Ideas:
- Small Ornaments.
- Pieces of wrapped candy.
- Notes of encouragement.
- Small Toys.
- Good Deeds to do.
- Christmas Activity Ideas to be done as they are plucked out!
