It doesn’t snow in Dallas, Texas all that often – but last night we got a generous sprinkling of the white stuff! It all happened at Music Hall at Fair Park, as the Dallas Summer Musicals series presented Elf The Musical!
If you’re at all familiar with the modern day Christmas movie classic – you already know the basic plot of Elf the Musical. But there is SO much more in this stage production than you might expect, including some fun plot changes. There is also lot’s of holiday cheer of course, and a lot of laughing and pulling on heart strings as well!
As soon as the production opened, the crowd I was watching with was laughing at several well placed jokes in Santa’s opening monologue. Santa seems to have a pretty good grasp on being in the DFW area, as he weaved local references and current events into his hello!
Hilarious.
Santa is the narrator of this tale, and as he starts you are whisked away to a very colorful and fun look at The North Pole!
Elf The Musical is a delight in every way. It mixes traditional Christmas elements with decidedly modern references, and seems to have something for just about any member of the family to enjoy.
Highlights for my family included some of the most beloved moments of the movie – including the spaghetti with syrup moment! We also loved when the curmedgeon of a dad whipped out a pretty good “Nay Nay” and “Hit the Quan” dance! Even teenagers in our audience, had to crack a smile at that!
And then, there is the flying sled and… the snow! Chill bumps everywhere!
This show is a perfect compliment to your holiday plans this year, and is sure to get everyone in your family feeling all sparklejollytwinklejingley!
Word to the wise, this show is 2 hours and 15 minutes with an intermission. Very small children may do better at a matinee if they typically fall asleep earlier in the night! Also, be sure to get a seat booster for tiny tots so they can see clearly. Fair Park offers boosters in their lobby at each show for $3. Well worth it, to see your kiddo’s eyes light up watching Buddy the Elf and his adventures!
