I love the idea of tricky little leprechauns running around hiding pots of gold, don’t you? But if you aren’t lucky enough to trap a leprechaun this year – you can always make your own leprechaun bottle craft! These friendly little creatures are simple to make, and use things you may already have around the house – like a used water bottles or plastic Easter eggs.
My family gets a real kick out of this leprechaun bottle craft, and I hope yours will too! Here is how you can make one, right now…
Leprechaun Bottle Craft:
Leprechaun Bottle Men Supplies:
- Green Felt Square
- Faux Craft Fur
- Wooden Beads
- Plastic Easter Eggs
- An empty Plastic Bottle
- A Decoration or Sticker for the Hat (optional)
One of the fun things about this leprechaun bottle craft, is that you can really use whatever you have lying around the house! Don’t have any plastic Easter Eggs for feet? No problem, the bottle alone will stand just fine. Feel free to skip them.
Have a very tall skinny bottle or a short round bottle – they will just make your leprechaun man have more unique personality!
So have fun, and feel free to improvise…
Step 1. Glue Easter Egg Feet on Plastic Bottle – If your eggs splits down the middle you may want to use two bottoms or two tops to make your feet even. If your eggs open up in half, you are good to go without a second egg! Just make sure the two halves you are using are the same height – or your leprechaun may be lopsided!
Step 2. Cut out a Triangle Shape from the fur – I like white or orange fur to make it really Irish looking! You can use your fingers to move the fur around so it looks like a mustache and beard!
I like to pull some of the fur at the top – out to the sides!I think it looks like an old fashioned mustache!
Step 3. Roll your Felt into a Cone Shape – Secure the roll using a hot glue gun. Be sure to try it on your Leprechaun’s head before you settle on the width. Feel free to use whatever color or pattern of felt appeals to you. My felt had a sticky backing on it – but I still used a glue gun to secure it.
Step 4. Add a wooden Bead for a Leprechaun Nose – Secure with a dot of hot glue.
It’s now safe to name your leprechaun! My Leprechaun Bottle men are named Shaemus, Darby, and Connor O’ Malley.
They say they are pleased to meet you! 😉
Leprechaun Bottle Men are great for using as a St. Patrick’s Day decoration, or on a covered porch as ancient Garden Gnomes! Have fun creating them – and hiding them around the house.
Leprechaun Men are particularly good at hiding in some foliage, or poking out from behind some tchotchkes on a shelf! Play a game with them, and see which family member spots one hiding first!
