( Eggs finished, and on display in our kitchen shelf…along with a wind up chick-a-dee!)
I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather lately, and I found out why this past week. The simple sore throat I had was severe tonsillitis, and on top of that I have Mono! Yay!! Great news!!! lol.Anyway, my energy level is low. So this small Easter project was perfect. It’s cheap, and takes no skill at all! All you need is a pack of cheap plastic Easter eggs. I got mine from the dollar store. Also from the dollar store- a roll of masking tape. And that’s all you need, along with your choice of paint. I used children’s watercolor.
( My cheap plastic eggs, and masking tape)
You just take small strips of tape, and stick them all over your plastic eggs, making sure the tape is pressed as flat as you can get it. You can make tape designs at the end if you like- stripes, diamonds etc. Once your eggs are covered you put on the paint. The paint will be darkest on all the little edges you created with your tape. So the smaller the strips, the more texture you create. You could put more than one color on an egg for a tie-dye egg, or stick to one color. That’s it!! SO EASY!
(My eggs taped up, and being painted on)
The eggs eventually come out looking like colored paper-mâché. But WAY less mess.Thought I’d pass this project along, in case anyone is looking for an Easter craft that won’t take all day to clean up after! Happy almost Easter everyone!
Shan, I am so sorry that you’re so sick! I hope everything heals soon and that you start to see some of your energy coming back!
I love that, even through being sick, you’re still making Easter super fun and easy for all of us! I love this Easter egg idea!
Love you!
hey girlfriend! great idea with the eggs! they looks so awesome and easy to make without a wet big mess! they look so pretty and vintagy:) love you, hope you’re feeling better soon. Sending you lots of love and healing positive energy.
Laura- I hope my energy comes back soon too! Michael has been helping out lot’s with Molly- so that helps a ton! Glad you like the craft project- it’s one I’ve meant to do for a while. I think I first did it as a kid at Girls Scouts! Funny how stuff like that sticks with ya!
Nikki- Thanks for the love, and healing energy! I’ll take it! I also think the eggs look kind of vinatge like. And I think they will age and fade nicely. Plus- they are so light, they seem really delicate when you pick them up- but of course they are just plastic eggs, so they wont shatter! Glad you like them!
Cute idea and I’m hoping your feeling better soon!
Thanks D! I’m feeling much better already. I’m on crazy antibiotics- and they are kicking the crap out of my tonsillitis! My throat isn’t sore anymore! And the mono isn’t so bad. Just have to wait it out I guess!! 🙂
Shannon, you poor thing! It is so hard to be sick and be Mommy at the same time. I hope you’ll feel better soon!
Thanks Wendy. I’m feeling much better as time goes on! I also got a lot of help and extra rest this week because my husband took care of the baby during the night. What a blessing!! He’s the best. But, yeah you’re right- no fun being a mommy and sick:)
Those are so pretty, Shannon! How are you feeling? Many prayers that you’re all healed up soon and have a comforting, relaxing (easier said than done with littles!) rest of the week. :o)
Thanks so much for the well wishes Kelly!
I AM feeling better actually, and everyday I feel a bit more like myself. I hope you guys have a great rest of the week too! And happy Easter:)
