There are so many great festive events specifically for little children in the Holiday season. But sometimes, you want something that can entertain everyone in the family. Something truly multi-generational! Maybe you want a festive grown up date night. Or you’re looking for a place to take the teenagers to get in the holiday spirit? What to do then? I have a great suggestion! Get tickets for “Twas the Night Before…,” Cirque du Soleil’s holiday themed show! Our ENTIRE family loved it equally! And on the way home, our teenager could not stop raving. If you’re the parent of a tween or teen – you know how impressive that is!
“Twas the Night Before…” Cirque du Soleil – is making its Dallas debut at the Texas C. U. Theater this year – running through Sunday, December 11, 2022. You can also catch this incredible show in Boston, Detroit and Phoenix. Our family recently attended a performance of this incredible show in Dallas – and I don’t even know how to capture what the experience is like. It was really unlike any holiday show I’ve ever seen. So much action, but also sweet and poignant.
So, I’m thrilled to partner with Cirque du Soleil to tell you more about what you can expect if you are lucky enough to score tickets to one of it’s performances…
Is it really Holiday Themed?
Oh my stars! YES! “Twas the Night Before…” is Cirque du Soleil’s take on the classic Christmas tale, with a twist. This production is actually Cirque du Soleil’s first-ever dedicated Christmas show. Full of bigger than life characters and themes, and Holiday tunes re-mixed, this show will keep the attention of even the youngest members of the audience. But the beauty and athleticism you expect from a Cirque du Soleil production are still there in spades. The adults in the audience around us seemed equally entranced.
This show uses the equivalent of 5 large dump trucks worth of artificial snow! It also features 41 pieces of holiday music throughout – 29 of them original. They also revisited 12 famous Christmas songs, including Jingles Bells, Silent Night, Deck the Halls, and more. The score really is great and I wish I had a recording of it to listen to every holiday.
Does it have the spectacle and scale of a classic Cirque du Soleil show?
Absolutely. The show features incredible acrobatics featuring, 26 artist from 14 different countries! Our family particularly enjoyed the way the show keeps moving and shifting to different kind of acrobats, dancers, and characters.
The colors, music and incredible feats of these athlete/artists will keep the attention of both kids – and their parents. The show is really fast paced. Be aware there is no intermission, so grab a drink and use the restroom before it starts. You will not want to miss a second of the show.
Is there a plot?
Without giving away any spoilers. The main teen character, Isabela, has lost her Christmas spirit. Sound like anyone you know? She is whisked away to a whimsical upside-down, inside-out world full of magic and adventures.
Isabela meets colorful and quirky characters who help her remember the true meaning of Christmas. The question is -will Isabela regain her Christmas spirit?
What kid of Dance and Acrobatics are featured?
Some of the show’s groundbreaking performances include the Duo Straps dance, Acro Table, an aerial Hotel Cart, Roller Skate Duo, Diabolo, Hoop Diving, Aerial the Lamp, and Share the Spark! These traditional acrobatic stunts are combined with a holiday soundtrack, dancing and storytelling.
Some Acrobatic Facts: The top speed reached in the Roller Skate number is 30 mph! Eight diabolos are used simultaneously in the
Diabolo act – and they reach speeds of 20 turns per second. The Strap Duo act is performed 20 feet in the air! And the artist performing the Hair Suspension act performs approximately 100 turns. And her hair can withstand 250 lbs. of pressure!
